Colin Kaepernick - A Future Seahawk?

First off I just want to say that I wanted to write this for a while now and thanks to the rumours that the Seahawks might be an option for Kaepernick it made it the perfect excuse to post this! I want to make it perfecly clear that this post is solely based on his abilities as player and no political comments will be made (bar something I will mention) so please keep that in mind, so don't be mad at me okay internet? ;). I know Kap isn't perfect but he's a player I very much like and I think could he could be the perfect back up for Russell Wilson. Why? Here's why.

Colin Kaepernick's college career was a success, in 4 years, he played 51 games, he attemped 1,271 throws completing 740 of those passes, he had a 58.1% completition percentage with a total of 10,098 yards. He threw for 82 TDs and had 24 interceptions. Rushing wise he rushed 600 times, tallying up a total of 4,112 yards, averaging 7 yards per cary and 59 TDs. He was the #4 pick of the second round back in 2011 when the 49ers traded up with the Broncos.

On his first season Kap barely played but the 49ers had a very successful season reaching the NFC Championship game where they lost to the Giants.
In 2012 Colin became a starter in week 10 when Alex Smith suffered a concussion and after that he held that spot until the end of the season. On his first post season game he set an NFL single-game record for most rushing yards by a quarterback with 181 and led the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII where they lost 31-34 to the Ravens (Kap threw one TD and rushed for another).

The 2013 season couldn't start better for Colin, on the opening game of the season he threw for a career-high 412 yards and three touchdowns. After finishing 12-4 the 49ers made it to the NFC Championship game in Seattle where they lost 23-17 with a Malcom Smith interception off a Sherman tipped pass killed the game.

The Sherman play that ended the game.

After that game the 49ers never shook back, they finished the 2014 season 8-8 and missed the playoffs with Colin being fined for innapropriate language by the NFL. The following season the 49ers struggled again with Kap losing his starting stop to Gabbert, he ended up missing the rest of the season because of an injured left shoulder that required surgery.

This season he lost the starting position with Chip Kelly naming Gabbert his #1 QB. Only on week 6 did Kaepernick manage to start, in November during the 49ers' 24-31 loss to the Dolphins he recorded 296 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns and 113 yards rushing yards, joining Mike Vick, Cam , Cunningham, and Mariota as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to record at least three passing touchdowns and 100 yards rushing in a game. However that didn't stop the 49ers from having a terrible season finishing 2-14.

To make matters worst during the season Colin put himself on the spotlight annoucing that he'd kneel down during the national anthem as a prospect due to police violence. After a pre season game he said"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder". He received a lot of hate but Seahawk players Doug Baldwin and Michael Bennett (among others) supported Colin's decision claiming that their protest with Baldwin saying "Is the same as Kaepernick's. Let me clarify that for you. The message that we're sending is, 'Yes, there are things in our country that need to be changed.' But that's why our country is so great. We're never afraid to face those challenges head on and make those changes. We're never afraid to make the uncomfortable the norm, and that's why we're so great.". I just pointed this out to say that he'd be welcomed in the locker room, at least for his decision to kneel during the anthem.

These are Colin's NFL stats :

Colin is a good QB that had a bad couple of seasons but they were not only his fault as it shows for the 49ers terrible couple of seasons. Kap showed us in 2012/2013 that he has the ability of a true playmaker and making him a number 2 to Wilson would be awesome, despite him being 6ft4 he's fast and plays just like RW3, he scrambles and makes plays outside the pocket meaning he'd fit Seattle's system just fine, the only question is : Will he take a paycut and join a SB contender being 29 ? or does he want to fight for the starting role on a 7-9 team?
We'll know that answer by next week when free agency rolls around and I personally hope he comes to Seattle.

So, that's it! What do you think? Agree with me? Disagree ? Who would you add? Let me know ! @ me on twitter on either @Peter1678 or @NFLPeter . I hope you guys enjoyed! And Internet.. Please don't kill me ;)
